WFP School Feeding Programme focuses on both food and education. Offering children a free, nutritious meal in school is an important reason for parents to send their children to school. In many cases it is the only meal the children get in a day. A good meal can help children focus on their school work and achieve better learning results, laying the basis for a better future.
In 2008 alone, more than 19.3 million children in 74 countries benefited from various School Feeding Programmes. If you want to provide a child with a much needed nutritional healthy meal, click here
Also, millions of girls benefit from food rations to take home to their families - a powerful and affordable gender equality programme. Where possible, WFP uses cash donations to buy food from local farmers. About 70% of the food WFP purchases comes from local farmers, which equates to millions of dollars invested in local economies.
