Help your child develop healthy eating habits for life by offering a variety of foods as well as breastfeeding or using follow-up milk:

  • ±1 slice of light brown bread spread with soft margarine (e.g. Rama) and cheese or ham
  • ½ to 1 piece of fruit (no citrus fruit)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of vegetables
  • 1 tablespoon mashed potatoes/white rice/sieved pulses
  • 2-3 times per week: 1 tablespoon meat/ fish/ chicken (cooked)/ ½ egg.
  • Bread or rice crackers make a good snack.
  • Between meals you can give your child water or tea. You can start to teach him to drink out of a cup/mug.

If needed you can still puree or mash the fruit and vegetables. Tip: Add some liquid margarine (e.g. Rama) when you mash/puree vegetables, potatoes and rice. This is an easy and tasty way to provide your child with essential fats.

Children under 1 year should avoid salt, sugar and honey.  A young baby's kidneys can't process salt; sugar can cause tooth decay and honey sometimes contains a bacteria that causes serious illness.9-10 months
