As from the very beginning, back in the 1920’s, Rama has been at the forefront of margarine in Europe. Meanwhile we are fortunate for being trusted by many mothers. Thanks to our loyal mothers, Rama has become available under various brand names in many countries and also as of [launch date in country name] in [insert country name]. Did you know that the name margarine is derived from the Greek word for pearls, i.e. margarites? The inventor of margarine - the French food researcher Mège Mouriès – looked at the fatty acids, the building blocks of fat in margarine and those fatty acids reminded him of lustrous pearly drops.

Yet, far more important than the looks of those fatty acids is what they provide. Being entirely vegetable fats based, Rama margarine contains essential fatty acids needed for growth and development. Those good fats are essential because the body cannot produce them. Ever since the start of Rama, Rama has helped mothers feeding their kids with essential nutrients.

Our products and packaging have undergone many improvements with the aim to make them better and more nutritional. As of the 1930’s, vitamin A and D were added to the recipe, complementing the vitamin E which is naturally available in vegetable oils, the main ingredient of margarines. In the 1940-1950’s vitamin ‘F’ was discovered. It turned out that this vitamin was naturally present in vegetable oils and nowadays we know this vitamin as linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid.
Whilst at the beginning the product was packed in kegs and later in wrappers, it was as of the 1960’s that tubs became more and more the standard to pack Rama, dramatically improving the convenience to use and store the products. As of 2002, we introduced Rama Culinesse in a bottle further improving both quality and convenience of use.

Meanwhile throughout the 1970’s till today the fat composition of our products was further improved, both in quantity and in quality. The most well known vegetable oils we use in our products are e.g. sunflower oil and rapeseed oil.
