You probably know the saying ‘You are what you eat’. Most likely you also agree that healthy food is important for the body to grow and maintain healthy. Less well known however is that your brain needs nutrients too.
Rama invites you to discover more about the link between certain nutrients and the role they play for the brain. Let us introduce three important nutrients to you: DHA, ALA and B-vitamins.
DHA (an Omega 3 fatty acid) is an important building block of the brain. It can be found in fatty fish. This is why it is recommended to eat herring, mackerel or sardine once or twice every week. In addition, the body can make limited amounts of DHA from ALA.
ALA which stands for alpha-linolenic acid. ALA is an essential fatty acid that the body can’t make itself. Why is ALA important for the brain you may ask; well, if the brain does not get enough ALA, it cannot function right. However ALA is not contained in many foods. The best sources are seed oils such as those found in Rama and Rama Idea!.
Last but not least B-vitamins: certain B-vitamins help in the communication between brain cells. Folic Acid for example is a B-vitamin. Folic Acid is not present in many foods. For many people it is difficult to get enough of this.
As it can be difficult to eat enough of the nutrients above, foods that do contain these nutrients, like Rama Idea!, can help ensure an adequate intake.
